Outdoor Learning

At Roach Vale Primary, we are proud to offer a rich and engaging outdoor learning programme that brings learning to life in the great outdoors. Every other half term, each class swaps one of their weekly PE lessons for dedicated outdoor learning sessions - giving our children the opportunity to explore, discover, and grow in a natural setting. We are committed to giving every child the chance to thrive; both inside and outside the classroom.
Our extensive outdoor learning space includes a log circle for storytelling and group activities, a rope swing that encourages physical challenge and coordination, and a wide range of trees and natural fauna that provide endless opportunities for exploration and discovery. We also have a school pond and an allottment area.
We believe that outdoor learning is a powerful way to nurture curiosity, promote well-being, and support children’s holistic development. From teamwork and problem-solving to oracy and a deeper connection with nature, the benefits of outdoor learning are far-reaching and long-lasting. Our programme centres around a team of outdooring learning characters and incorporates learning from our maths, science, art and geogrpahy curriculums along with outdoor survival skills and problem solving. Each session is based around a premise of scenario with a problem the children need to solve together. Teachers are there to facilitate rather than direct, so children can explore their own ideas.
