AI in Our School

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming part of everyday life, including the way children learn and the tools schools use. At Roach Vale, we use AI carefully and responsibly to support teaching, reduce staff workload and enhance learning experiences where appropriate.  AI is never used as a replacement for teaching, and safeguarding and data protection remain our highest priorities. This page explains what AI is, how it may be used in our school, and how we ensure it is used safely, ethically and in line with our school values.

Our Generative AI policy can be read here.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence, often called AI, is a type of technology that allows computers to do things that normally need human thinking. This can include recognising patterns, answering questions, sorting information or helping people complete tasks more quickly.

AI does not think or feel like a person. It does not understand things in the way humans do and it cannot make decisions on its own. Instead, it works by following rules and learning from information that people have created and checked.

In schools, AI can be used as a support tool for adults, for example to help plan lessons, create resources or provide feedback. Teachers always make the final decisions about children’s learning, and we limit access to AI tools for our pupils so we can ensure all learning is organic and safe.
