Roach Vale Primary School was alive with colour, music, and the spirit of Spain today as children and staff celebrated their annual International Day. This year the children ‘took a trip’ to Spain to learn about Spanish culture. Children made castanets and maracas, crafted their own Spanish fans, explored surrealist art inspired by Salvador Dalà and abstract works by Pablo Picasso, and even constructed model Spanish guitars. A special highlight of the day was a visit from Ms Theobald from Multidance who led workshops on El Candil, a traditional Spanish folk dance that had pupils twirling with joy. Paella and churros for lunch was an extra special treat too!
World Book Day 2025 was a huge hit with children donnign amazing costumes from their favourite books. We had a costume parade around the playground, prizes for the most imginative costumes and lot of reading happening throughout the day. The children spent the day having lots of reading adventures including searching for yetis, travelling the world with Paddington, making potions with Harry Potter and taking a ride on the 100 decker bus. We love our house days and this one was great!
Our Year 3 children spent the morning at Welshwood Manor Care Home to sing Christmas songs for the residents. They were amazed to see a lady aged 101 years old singing along with them. It was a morning filled with Christmas joy!
This half term we invited children to learn about the history of where they are from! We are all unique, with different family backgrounds and experiences of different cultures, so this project was all about learning our heritage and having a chance to share our findings with our friends. It turns out that we have a melting pot of culture and diversity in our school and we all really enjoyed hearing about each other's families and seeing the different ways we can present information.
