SCHOOL LED TUTORING GRANT

School Led Tutoring Grant

In 2021-2022 Roach Vale Primary School will receive a ring-fenced grant for tutoring provision for disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils who have missed the most education due to COVID-19.  Roach Vale has prioritised our disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils for tutoring.

Tutoring

Our Class Teachers and Learning Support Assistants are providing intensive and individualised academic support to pupils in either one-to-one or small group arrangements. In these smaller groups pupils can build their confidence and staff can more easily identify areas requiring support.  We have found that group sizes of three pupils allows us to maximise outcomes for pupils.

Our grant has enabled us to use internal staffing capacity to meet the diverse needs of our pupils, as our teachers and teaching assistants are familiar with our pupils and understand what approaches to tutoring will be best suited to our vulnerable pupils with different needs.  By using our own staff, we have been able to:

  • explicitly link tuition to classroom teaching and pupil’s specific needs
  • update Target Tracker, which is our regular assessment tool, and use this to track and identify areas of focus
  • provide short, regular and sustained tutoring sessions as they are needed
  • plan tutoring well and ensure that it is supported by teaching resources with clear objectives
  • increase engagement because our staff already have good relationships with our pupils and their families
  • use well trained, and known, staff

Tutoring began from the beginning of the Autumn term, so that pupils could start benefitting from tutoring support.
